My birthday ended 9 minutes ago. It's kind of sad that I spent most of the day sleeping. I can't just up and break my whole cycle for just one day!
It's alright though. The part I was awake for was great.
My wonderful friends took me out to dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse! I never thought in all my life I would be able to eat there. I asked my ex once (jokingly, of course) if we could eat there. His reaction was, "Well, if you want me to be sleeping in the gutter. That's the only way I could afford it."
And it's true. The menu was quite pricey. But oh, it was worth every penny.

I have never had such a divine slab of cow flesh pass through my lips. It was incredible. All the food was incredible actually. They have a dish called shoestring potatoes. The were like french fries only the were the thickness of a shoelace. And the asparagus with hollandaise? Delicious. Not to mention their chocolate cake for dessert. Ah, reliving the meal is almost as good as eating it the first time. (Almost.)
My dad is taking me out to dinner tomorrow night and my mom is planning a special trip for the two of us. (And maybe Taylor too, but we'll see.)
I got the new CS3 Photoshop upgrade! I'm so excited. I'll be able to shoot exclusively in RAW and not have to worry about downloading free trials and all that crap in order to process them.
Aubrey bought me a huge roll of white backdrop paper. Our studio is starting to come together nicely.
(Oh ya, I forgot to blog about this. We've turned the spare bedroom in Aubrey's house into our studio. We spent a whole day painting. Silver-blue walls with white trim. We bought some lighting equipment and now we've got some real backdrop material. We can finally ditch the ol' Walmart bedsheets. We also had our first studio shoot last Friday. It also happened to be our first itty bitty baby shoot too. Little Tyson was adorable. Only two weeks old. You can check the photos out here.

Lacey got me the Twilight books and Shari got me that portrait photography book I've been wanting. All in all, I'd say it was a pretty good day.

I feel as though, this being my 21st birthday and all, that I should do some reflecting. I don't really want to, but I feel compelled so bear with me.
My life isn't turning out how I had planned. If you would have asked me five years ago what I would be doing right now, I would have said that I would be in school, studying sports medicine, living on campus, and doing all that college stuff.
As it turns out, I'm living with a friend, working for the police department, and starting my own photography business.
I don't date much. I thought I would date a lot more than this. I guess the time will come when the right one comes along, but it's not right now. I'm okay with that. I can be patient. Everything happens for a reason. Right?
Don't tell my dad, but I'm getting a small itch to go back to school. I was looking at the courses required for a degree in photography at UVSC and I got all excited just reading about them. Although, I don't know how that would work out. I'm not ready to quit my job at the police department. I still enjoy it. I want to wait until I don't like it anymore before I quit.
Besides, how would I have time to take classes? Between my full time job, all my photoshoots, editing photos, building our website, perusing Flickr, and blogging...I'm booked.

Today was the most incredible shoot. Check it out!

I must confess. Alexis is not getting married.
Somehow I talked her into taking part in our crazy ideas. We bought an old, dirty wedding dress from DI and convinced her to scale a mountain in the blistering heat to an old, decaying, treacherous mine.
It was so worth it. These might be my most favorite shots I've ever taken.
The weather was hot and sticky, but the wind was blowing to keep us cool. It was annoying pushing our hair out of our eyes every 3 seconds, but it sure made for some cool veil/dress action.
Alexis was the best model ever! We'd say, "Go stand over there," and we'd turn around and she'd be posed so perfectly, we didn't have to say a thing. It's like she could see exactly what we were picturing.
We got tired and dirty climbing up and down the crumbling walls. Luckily, we have no emotional attachment to this dress (other than of course, it looks awesome!) We've got some big plans for this dress before it's retired or returned to DI. No one in their right mind would do these kind of things with their real wedding dress, so we're going to take full advantage of the fact that it can get dirty and not ruin the best day of someone's life.
Alexis, since this dress fits you like a glove, you're our girl. I'm giving you a heads up right now. This is your chance to run.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

So...this looks pretty. Right?

WRONG!
Today was our first field trip for the photography class Aubrey and I are taking. We went out to the boat harbor at the Great Salt Lake to take some sunset/water photos. The photos turned out great. Getting the photos was a whole different story.
See those rocks right there? Do you see them? Imagine stepping on one and watching it change color. Would you like to know why it's changing color?
It is covered with flies. Billions and billions of brine flies. Black, swarming clouds of brine flies.
When you step on a rock, these billions of brine flies take flight. There are so many, it sounds like wind blowing through a forest. You can hear a whoosh every time you take a step.
Now imagine with every step through clouds of brine flies, you get a little closer to the nasty, rotten stink-hole that is the Great Salt Lake. The nauseating, sulfuric smell is permeating through your whole body.
With every step, you also sink a little into the putrid, festering mud. I learned today that it is called oolytic sand. Oolytic sand is made from the waste of brine shrimp.
Lovely.
Add to all of this the sun is beating down on your back and you are laden like a pack mule with way too much camera gear.
That was my day.

The things I do for my craft.
I got stung by a BEE! A real one. With a stinger!
I've never been stung by a bee before. It hurt! A lot more than I thought bee stings hurt.
I didn't even see it coming. All of the sudden I cursed and my elbow started burning. And THEN, the air was swarming with bees. It was like My Girl.
I could have died.

I guess it was worth it though. Look how gorgeous Angela looks.

Look, look!!

Do you know what this means?
I'll tell you.
It means...I shot my first wedding today!
How cool is that! I absolutely LOVE how this photo turned out. Don't you? Well, if you don't, you should. It's pretty neato.
Ok, fine. How about this one?

For my very firstest wedding ever, I'm pretty pleased. I feel so much more confident in my skills than I did this morning. I can actually do this! For real! And it looks good!
I'm ready to get out there and DO this thing. Bring it on!
So, major thanks to Tarun and Aubrey for letting me crash their wedding. The experience was worth its weight in 2 gig memory cards.

I've been a little blogstracted lately. Ok, maybe that's not the right word. How about busy? Yes! Busy is a good word. The perfect word.
I have a plethora of good news to share. Photographically, things are going excellent.
Aubrey and I have been busy little bees. I have two cousin photoshoots down and three more in the works. I'm so excited. We've got some seriously cool ideas swirling around right now and I think they're gonna be awesome. (Madison and Alexis, be excited.)
I'm starting to get really scared/excited. Things are starting to get serious. I mean website, bank account, business card serious. AND we keep getting all sorts of neat opportunities. For example, the chance to shoot photos for the Miss American Fork pageant. How cool is that?! I'll definitely update on how that one goes.
So, as of right now things are still in the preliminary stages. Building our portfolio, buying equipment, ironing out details (i.e. pricing, locations, etc.)
We signed up for this which starts next week. I think it's going to be fun and educational. (Who knew!)
It'll be nice to hear pro advice in person, rather than from a book or on the computer. I'm excited for some hands on learning.
So, basically thats the news. Anyone who wants to help a girl out, gimme a shout. I'm looking for some seriously awesome people to model for me. I need boys, girls, babies, couples, pretty much anything. Let me know!
