So...this looks pretty. Right?

WRONG!
Today was our first field trip for the photography class Aubrey and I are taking. We went out to the boat harbor at the Great Salt Lake to take some sunset/water photos. The photos turned out great. Getting the photos was a whole different story.
See those rocks right there? Do you see them? Imagine stepping on one and watching it change color. Would you like to know why it's changing color?
It is covered with flies. Billions and billions of brine flies. Black, swarming clouds of brine flies.
When you step on a rock, these billions of brine flies take flight. There are so many, it sounds like wind blowing through a forest. You can hear a whoosh every time you take a step.
Now imagine with every step through clouds of brine flies, you get a little closer to the nasty, rotten stink-hole that is the Great Salt Lake. The nauseating, sulfuric smell is permeating through your whole body.
With every step, you also sink a little into the putrid, festering mud. I learned today that it is called oolytic sand. Oolytic sand is made from the waste of brine shrimp.
Lovely.
Add to all of this the sun is beating down on your back and you are laden like a pack mule with way too much camera gear.
That was my day.
